Ongoing funding

Funding for these individual, group and centre-based grants are currently underway, however, new applications are no longer being accepted under these categories. Applications for new funding opportunities can be found in the current funding opportunities section.

Major programs

The Canadian Cancer Society currently provides ongoing funding and support to three centre-based research initiatives: the Canadian Centre for Applied Research in Cancer Control (ARCC), the NCIC Clinical Trials Group (NCIC CTG) and Propel Centre for Population Health Impact.

Research grants to individuals

Funds are being provided to finance the direct costs of cancer research in such areas as biological, chemical, physical, clinical population and health sciences. Support has been offered through research grants and research/equipment grants for new investigators.

Prevention initiative

Funds are being provided under the Canadian Cancer Society’s Prevention Initiative, which have allowed targeted funding mechanisms for cancer prevention research, capacity building and the creation of new partnerships and collaborations that can be used by the Society to advance cancer prevention in Canada.

Program project grants

Funds are being provided to support the direct costs of cancer research being undertaken by a group of researchers working together in a concerted fashion.

Personnel support awards

Stipend support for trainees is being provided via a number of different mechanisms, including ongoing postgraduate training fellowships, studentships and travel awards for students.
